About me and Mid-Life Magick
Hi, I'm Helen, a certified personal fitness trainer, yoga teacher and the founder of Mid-Life Magick.
Mid-life Magick was borne from the desire to change the narrative around menopause and ageing.
To be a space of 'what-ifs' instead of the standard narrative of lack around the second half of our lives .
I've always been passionate about fitness, and that has evolved into a career in the fitness world for 20 plus years now.
I started my journey long before social media became the go to place for fitness advice.
Now everyone is an expert, and there seems to be a zillion different ways to do pretty much the same thing!
My ethos is to keep it simple, and to keep on challenging yourself. Which includes your mind as well as your body.
I don't pay much attention to what goes on in the parallel world of the internet, because to me that's not where life happens.
Fitness isn't all about image, the best lightening, and taking loads of shots until you get the right one.
Fitness is red in the face, out of puff and sweaty and the endorphins of feeling good when you've pushed yourself. Its real.
Nutrition isn't about dishing up 'cordon blue' dishes worthy of a Michelin star. I'll leave that to the professionals. It's about nutritious, wholefood that will support your health and not take away from it.
And mindset isn't about always having a happy, clappy day where everything is coming up roses. It's riding the highs and lows that modern living is about. Its understanding that there will be the rough as well as the smooth, and having tools in place to help you through the harder days.
This has always been how I live, but it's even more so now that I have been through the transformation of menopause.
The advice I sort when I first started going through the process shocked and saddened me.
We are encouraged to be smaller than ever, that our worth has expired, and we are now mere shadows of our former selves.
Nothing and I mean NOTHING could be further from the truth. I feel stronger now and more rooted in my feminine power than ever. And I believe ALL women can and should feel this.
I love helping others not only adopt healthier habits that help rebuild their physical health (in practical and doeable ways), but also to help them reconnect with themselves in ways that awaken them to the best of what is still to come. That's the real 'magick'.
Working with me is fun, because that's what life is meant to be.
I fully intend to still be touching my toes at 100, running, lifting weights and looking at the world with a twinkle in my eye. It would be great to have you along for the ride.
